Mammoths

Mammoths

Mammoths were animals from the same family of the elephants, that lived between about 1.6 million years and 10,000 years ago.

Mammoths extinct between in 1000 BC, but a small population survive until 1650 BC in two small islands in Alaska.

Mammoths were quite large than an elephant, it reached heights of at least five meters at the shoulder. Mammoths weight 6 to 8 tonnes, but exceptionally large males reached 12 tonnes!

They were herbivores.

Mammoths lived during the ice age and they need cold temperatures. When 1200 years ago the temperature increase, sea levels begin to rise up and forest replaced open woodlands. Their habitat disappeared and they disappeared too.
